New to me. I have never seen a Prickly Pear still on the cactus. We planted a piece of cactus that we had gotten from a friend just last year, in a big tub. Fortunately for me, it is the thornless variety. I planted this after reading that cactus is eaten because of it's belief that it helps people that are diabetic. I like the idea of having natural cures growing around me. I was so surprised to see it put on these pretty pink buds. I thought it might be the Pears, but then they started making a flower at the tips. So I am guessing the Pear comes later. Being this time of year I never expected it to start blooming, but then I did more research and found that it grows almost anywhere, even cooler climates. I will be trying my hand at making Prickly Pear Jelly. I found a recipe at AllRecipes.com. I love this website and go there for lots of recipe ideas. The reviews I have read sure make it sound worth while. Have you tried making it.
